Ladies, if you didn’t already love Whoopi Goldberg (and really, what’s not to love?) you are going to ADORE her after you learn more about the new cannabis product line she is launching with award-winning edibles maker Maya Elisabeth! Their collaboration is called Whoopi & Maya, a San Francisco based medical marijuana company that will focus on producing competitively priced, high quality cannabis-infused salves, balms and edibles designed to relieve menstrual pain and discomfort.

“Every month women experience pain and discomfort associated with their period. Cannabis is a wonderful remedy, and combined with other superfoods and medicinal herbs, can provide the type of relief many women need,” said Ms. Elisabeth.

Maya Elisabeth, CEO of Whoopi & Maya, is the owner of Om Edibles, an all-women Northern California cannabis collective and one of the most innovative manufacturers in the burgeoning California medical cannabis market. Maya brings a wealth of personal experience and knowledge of cannabis infusion and herbal healing to this new partnership and has created a unique line of synergistic products that significantly relieve PMS, menstrual discomfort and cramps.

Whoopi & Maya’s Signature Line will launch in California dispensaries in April 2016, offering four initial products in several scents, sizes and strengths that can work separately or together to provide a full range of monthly relief including:

  • Raw sipping chocolate infused with either CBD or THC that can be mixed in liquids such as warm milk or eaten as taste dictates
  • THC-infused tincture for serious discomfort
  • Profoundly relaxing THC-infused bath soak
  • Topical rub for localized pain

(Even though these products are formulated with women in mind, men will also find relief from aches and pains when using Whoopi & Maya products.)

In an interview with Vanity Fair, The View co-host said she wanted to create a product for women that was discreet, provided relief, and wouldn’t leave you glued to your couch.

“For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get high high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort,” she says. “Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work.”

“This, you can put it in your purse,” Goldberg continues. “You can put the rub on your lower stomach and lower back at work, and then when you get home you can get in the tub for a soak or make tea, and it allows you to continue to work throughout the day.”

“I am thrilled to partner with the amazing Maya Elisabeth to provide women an alternative for relieving the pain and discomfort associated with menstruation. This was all inspired by my own experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and the fact that cannabis was literally the only thing that gave me relief,” says Goldberg, the Chairwoman of Whoopi & Maya. “The only products available to us were filled with ingredients we couldn’t even pronounce and I discovered that I was not alone in this. When I looked further, I learned that this area was considered a ‘niche’… a ‘niche’ that includes half of the population! I was fortunate enough to be connected to Maya and this company is the result of that collaboration.”

We at Hopegrown are so excited to see this “niche” of female-focused cannabis products expanding! Whoopi & Maya joins Foria (makers of a menstrual cramp relieving vaginal suppository and a pleasure enhancing “therapeutic aphrodisiac” lube) in offering high-quality cannabis products specifically formulated with women in mind. We hope this is the beginning of a female-focused trend in the cannabis industry!

“Whoopi & Maya has the opportunity to set the Gold Standard for the medical cannabis industry. We have given ourselves a mandate to not only provide a quality therapeutic product, but also to educate the public and support social reform,” said Ms. Goldberg. Ms. Elisabeth adds, “We are an ambitious company entering an ambitious industry and can’t wait to expand our product offerings and geographic reach.”
